Brentford vs Reading Betting Tips

This is Brentford’s first match since the big money departure of striker Andre Gray to Burnley, which came as a major blow to the club although they should be able to re-invest some of the money in the transfer market.

The core of the side that reached the play-offs last year still remains so there is no reason why the club can’t have another strong season and although a top six finish may be hard to replicate, they are well capable of beating shot-shy Reading at Griffin Park. Marinus Dijkhuizen endured a difficult start to life as Brentford coach with a convincing 4-0 home defeat to League 2 Oxford coming in just his second game.

He appears to have ironed out a few problems though and has had more time on the training pitch than his opposite number after that early Capital One Cup exit and the cancellation of Brentford’s home game with Birmingham due to problems with the pitch.

Unlike Reading, Brentford do have a Championship win to their name after their 4-2 win at Bristol City and going forward, even without Gray they appear to be much more threatening than a Reading side that has scored just twice in 4 matches. Therefore Brentford look good value for the win at 6/5.

Reading’s problem already looks similar to last season. They have won twice in the Cup with Portsmouth their latest victims in midweek at Fratton Park but are winless in the Championship. Goalscoring has been a problem for some time but surprisingly they are more threatening on the road so there could still be a few goals in this one whereas their two matches at the Madejski so far have both finished 0-0.

Away from home Reading have scored in all of their last 8 Championship games but have only one win to show for it. Therefore we can see them netting in this one but still getting beat and odds of 8/1 for a 2-1 home win look like good value.
