Brighton vs Burnley Predictions

Few would have predicted that this game would be an automatic promotion showdown at the start of the season or even a few months back but that is exactly what it is. Going into the weekend leaders Burnley are 4 points clear of 2nd place Brighton and it seems certain that at least one of these sides will be in the Premier League next season.

Right now you wouldn’t bet against it being both with the sides immediately below them all in unconvincing form. Burnley have taken the league by storm over the past few months. They are unbeaten in 15 games in a run stretching way back to Boxing Day and 11 of those matches have been victories including 6 of the last 7. They did drop points last time out though when they were held at home by Wolves.

Brighton meanwhile were winning 2-1 at MK Dons thanks to 2 goals from Tomer Hemed that extended their unbeaten run to 6 matches and they’ve only lost 1 of their last 12, winning 8 of them including some really convincing displays. Since New Years’ Day they have won 5 of their 6 home games, drawing the other so this is a big test of Burnley’s title winning credentials.

Both teams have been quite positive in recent weeks and are likely to target 3 points here, particularly the hosts who could be replaced by Middlesbrough in 2nd on Friday night and will have one eye on Hull too. Both teams have scored in 4 of Burnley’s last 5 matches and they are the league’s top scorers. They will know that a win would see them go 7 points clear of the Seagulls with only 7 games to go and they would be right on the brink of promotion so it would be no surprise if they are positive here again and therefore backing both teams to score at 11/10 appeals.
