Gas leaking too many goals at home

Bristol Rovers won’t attract too much support as the marginal favourites over an in-form Northampton Town side this weekend. Joey Barton’s team have turned in some Jekyll and Hyde performances of late, appearing much more resilient on their travels than when in front of their faithful Gas followers at The Memorial Stadium.

The Pirates have lost three of their last four home league contests to slip down to 16th in the table and are conceding far too many goals. That sentiment extends to Barton’s second-string after they shipped five goals before half-time against Exeter City on Wednesday before restoring some pride in a 5-3 EFL Trophy defeat.

There are injuries, but Barton’s problems go further than that and it seems unlikely he and his staff can rectify all of them before the Cobblers’ trip to the West Country this weekend.

Cobblers on the right road after system shift

Only Port Vale and Swindon have taken more points than Jon Brady’s men in the last month and the Australian’s shift to a 4-2-3-1 formation has been paying dividends recently.

Northampton have won four of their five league games since the switch with the only loss coming at Hartlepool, who still possess the best home record in the division. They may still average only a goal per away game this season, but Northampton’s attacking numbers are trending upwards and we think we can catch some value by taking the visitors to score more than once on Saturday.

With at least two goals scored their last five league and FA Cup matches, Northampton go up against a side that has conceded at least two goals in four of their last five home games and we also fancy the visitors to grab a 2-1 away win too.
