Strasbourg to Win

Reason for tip

Strasbourg were easily the better side in the drawn first leg when they registered 19 shots to Brondby’s seven, including six on target to one. Strasbourg, who beat Nantes 1-0 on Sunday to make it 12 wins from the last 17 in all competitions, were denied by the woodwork, a clearance off the line and a brilliant goalkeeping performance from Patrick Penz. Meanwhile, Brondby lost to SonderjyskE at the weekend after a lethargic display.

Strasbourg 2-0

Reason for tip

Strasbourg need to win and probably feel they have nothing to fear after last week’s game. They have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven away matches and can secure a 2-0 victory.

  • Strasbourg beat Nantes 1-0 on Sunday with Emanuel Emegha on target

Strasbourg’s attack pounded Penz’s goal

Strasbourg will be left to rue missed chances in the first leg if their quest for European football fails when they face Brondby in Denmark on Thursday evening. Liam Rosenior’s side dominated the opener at Stade de la Meinau only to be denied by the woodwork, a clearance off the line and a brilliant goalkeeping performance from Patrick Penz.

The Brondby keeper could be in for another busy night if Strasbourg’s talented attacking line of Emanuel Emegha, Joaquin Panichelli, Dilane Bakwa and Kendry Paez make their presence felt.

Bakwa and Paez came off the bench in the first game and almost found a breakthrough, particularly when the Ecuadorian winger served up a sumptuous back-post cross for Emegha, who was denied at point-blank range.

Emegha leads vibrant French forward line

Brondby had one chance on the counter-attack in the 90 minutes and couldn’t beat substitute keeper Karl-Johan Johnsson in a one-on-one.  The Danish club are not enjoying a good spell at the moment and missed out on the chance to go top against SonderjskE on Sunday.

Their lethargic performance could be due to their European exertions in Strasbourg, but Rosenior’s side didn’t slip up at the weekend when they saw off Nantes 1-0 at home. A young and vibrant French side should have too much for Brondby second time around, even if it will be a first European away trip for many of them.

Emegha, who has scored in Europe before at Sturm Graz, opened his account for the current campaign at the weekend and looks the most likely scorer in an away win.
