Burnley and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Burnley battled hard for a point against Nottingham Forest on Saturday but they may find things easier against League One Cardiff, who were beaten 3-1 by Bradford on the same day. However, Scott Parker is expected to rotate his side, which could open the door for the Bluebirds to net in defeat.

Burnley 2-1

Reason for tip

The Clarets needed a 91st-minute winner to beat Derby 2-1 in the second round and Cardiff could be similarly tough to break down. The Bluebirds have kept six clean sheets in their last eight games and are unlikely to be blown away.

Burnley vs Cardiff Predictions

  • Burnley’s only defeat in four home games this season has come against Liverpool
  • Cardiff’s ten-game unbeaten run was ended by Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Bradford
  • The Clarets won and both teams scored when the pair last met in March

Clarets can continue cup run

Burnley had to dig deep to earn a point against big-spending Nottingham Forest on Saturday but they should find things a touch easier against League One Cardiff in the EFL Cup.

Jaidon Anthony’s first-half equaliser was enough for the Clarets to hold on for a 1-1 draw as Scott Parker showcased his excellent defensive nous to stifle Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Parker may let the shackles off somewhat against third-tier opposition and even a rotated side should have enough to see off Cardiff, who will surely still be reeling from a shock 3-1 home defeat to Bradford.

Back Bluebirds to net in defeat

That loss cost Brian Barry-Murphy’s team their spot at the League One summit and it is hard to see them bouncing back at Turf Moor, where Burnley’s only home loss this term came against Premier League champions and leaders Liverpool.

That being said, the Bluebirds were on a ten-match unbeaten run before their loss to the Bantams and, given they have scored in all but one of their matches, there is every chance they find the net in Lancashire.

Burnley have managed just one clean sheet this season and conceded in a home win over Derby in the previous round, with a similar scoreline expected on Tuesday.
