Forest need to kick campaign into gear

Nottingham Forest fans will have hoped the appointment of Oliver Glasner as their manager would help catapult the Midlanders up the Premier League, but it has been a sticky start under his guidance.

Glasner led Crystal Palace to FA Cup and Conference League glory in the last two seasons, but the Tricky Trees have won just one of their nine league matches under his stewardship and their home form has been a particular issue.

No top-flight outfit have scored fewer than their six goals and all of them have come on the road, so it is plain to see where the issues are and they have to hit the ground sooner rather than later.

However, it is bad news that they take on a Manchester City team who are anxious to make up for defeats in their last two matches that not only ended their 100 per cent start to the season but also allowed champions Arsenal to move to the top of the Premier League table.

Clean sheet for visitors far from assured

City’s losses to Aston Villa and Brighton should have ensured they are refocused after a dream start to life under Enzo Maresca and they will also be keen to demonstrate that their well-publicised off-the-field issues have not affected performances.

They went some way towards achieving that by claiming a 3-2 victory at RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, but while they were again able to rely upon their Nordic goal machine Erling Haaland to find the net, there are concerns at the other end.

There has been just one occasion in their last nine matches that the Citizens have kept a clean sheet, so while Forest remain goalless on the banks of the River Trent, that should provide some hope.

The Garibaldi Reds can threaten and it would not be a surprise to see them break their home scoring duck, but City’s power should come to the fore and they can win a match that includes at least three goals.

A 3-1 away win, therefore, is an attractive proposition for those looking for a correct-score interest.

Cherki could have his eye in

Haaland is typically a short price in the anytime-goalscorer market, so the value probably lies elsewhere and this could be the week that his team-mate Rayan Cherki gets back in the goalscoring groove.

The most recent of his four league goals of the campaign came in the 3-0 win at Liverpool on October 11, but he has been particularly active in the final third in his appearances since then.

There was a goal among his five shots in the 5-1 Champions League victory over AEK Athens, while he had six efforts on goal in the EFL Cup tie with Brighton and then another four in the Leipzig victory.
