Burnley vs Peterborough Predictions
- Burnley rank as a top-half team in the Premier League when it comes to shots on target conceded at home.
- Peterborough have scored just two goals in their last five League 1 matches.
- Peterborough have failed to win any of their last six away matches in League 1, five of which they’ve lost.
Reprieve needed
Having gone off the boil of late, losing each of their last three Premier League matches, Burnley have a welcome distraction. Facing League 1’s Peterborough at home provides Sean Dyche’s men with a timely opportunity to regain the winning thread.
It’s not been a happy Christmas period for Burnley, though they remain in a healthy enough position five points above the drop-zone. More importantly, they’ve generally performed well at home against the lesser teams in the league, as home wins against Everton, Norwich, Southampton, West Ham and Newcastle suggest. In those five games, The Clarets have scored ten goals and have conceded none. Such a stat bodes well ahead of a game against League 1 opposition.
Posh moving backwards
While this game will be a welcome distraction for the hosts, it’s probably not what Peterborough need. Posh have moved in the wrong direction of late in League 1 and they’ll likely want to rectify that ASAP, so an away FA Cup game against Premier League opposition isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered.
Peterborough have struggled in recent weeks. The goals have dried up, while their defensive resistance seems to be getting worse, as one goal scored and nine conceded in their last three suggests.
It is Posh’s recent lack of goals which is particularly worrying ahead of their trip to Turf Moor. Darren Ferguson’s men have scored just one in their last four, while they’ve failed to score in three of their last five on the road.
Opportunity knocks
This is an excellent opportunity for the hosts to both bounce back and advance to the next round. Punters are advised to support them to do just that by siding with ‘Burnley -1 Handicap’. Having kept lots of home clean sheets this term, beating the likes of West Ham, Norwich and Southampton by more than a single goal at this venue, the hosts are backed to record a convincing win against a League 1 side that has struggled recently. Posh have recently suffered some heavy defeats at their own level, which does not bode well ahead of this match.
