Burnley vs Watford Predictions

  • Burnley are unbeaten in their last four home games in the Premier League (W1, D3).
  • Watford have lost eight of their last nine games in all competitions.
  • The Hornets are missing top scorer Emmanuel Dennis.
  • Burnley have scored eight goals in seven Premier League games at Turf Moor.

Bottom pair meet in Saturday’s sole Premier League fixture

There is just one Premier League game this weekend as struggling pair Burnley and Watford meet in a proverbial six-pointer at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.

Watford arrive with their third manager of the season at the helm for his first game in charge after Roy Hodgson replaced Claudio Ranieri, while Burnley can move off the bottom of the table and ahead of the Hornets immediately above them if they can pick up what would be just a second Premier League win of the campaign.

The Clarets did manage an unlikely point at Arsenal in their last fixture and they are unbeaten in their last four at home in the league. Watford went down 3-0 at home to key rivals Norwich last time out, but we may see a reaction from the Hornets with Hodgson in charge.

Burnley are likely to hand a debut to January buy Wout Weghorst but are without the injured Ashley Barnes and suspended Josh Brownhill, while Watford will have to cope without top scorer Emmanuel Dennis due to suspension. Ben Foster is a concern for the Hornets and if he does miss out Daniel Bachmann will continue in goal.

Home advantage gives Clarets the edge

Burnley may have only managed one win this season in the league but there have been some signs of recovery in East Lancashire. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last four home games in the Premier League and that run includes a win over Brentford and a draw with top four hopefuls West Ham.

Watford’s recent form has been atrocious and they have eight defeats in their last nine games, with one draw. Hodgson’s arrival should eventually see them become more solid at the back but time is now against them in terms of the battle for survival and the fact they were put to the sword by a poor Norwich team last time out looks worrying.

As this is a huge game for both sides, this could well be a cagey affair but Burnley have home advantage and that may just give them the edge. Watford concede on average exactly two goals per-game in the Premier League but Burnley have managed just 16 goals in 18 league games, with the visitors missing their leading scorer a high scoring affair looks unlikely and a 1-0 win for the hosts has some appeal in the correct score market.
