Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have scored in eight of Watford’s last nine competitive matches.
  • Burnley have scored in each of their last three games but have conceded in ten of their last 12.
  • Burnley have drawn four of their last seven league games.

Clarets hit rock-bottom

Burnley saw yet another of their Premier League games called off on Saturday and, while they will be glad of the extra rest, the games in hand are piling up and the need for points in those fixtures is adding even more pressure onto Sean Dyche’s relegation-threatened side.

The Clarets are now bottom of the Premier League with 11 points from 17 games, although they have at least two games in hand on every other side in the bottom ten and would easily escape the relegation zone were they to win all those matches.

That, however, is looking very unlikely at the moment. They have failed to win each of their last eight competitive fixtures and have just one top-flight win to their name this season, not to mention the fact they have lost star-striker Chris Wood to relegation rivals Newcastle.

Hornets face season-defining week

Watford aren’t in much better shape, though. The Hornets picked up a point at Newcastle on Saturday to end their seven-game losing streak in all competitions but they remain just a point clear of the relegation zone and are in dire form right now.

This is an absolutely crucial week for Claudio Ranieri’s side, with three quickfire games against all of their main relegation rivals. They have already claimed one point, but a win against either Burnley or Norwich at the weekend would put them in a much better position.

Expect goals at both ends at Turf Moor

The wins may not be coming for these two sides, but they are at least managing to find the net with regularity and that points towards a couple of goals at least on Tuesday.

Burnley have scored in each of their last three matches but have only two clean sheets in their last 12 games, while Watford have seen both teams score in eight of their last nine in all competitions and haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their 19 Premier League games this season.

Backing both teams to score is my preference and, with four of Burnley’s last seven league games ending all square, a 1-1 correct score prediction also appeals.

Burnley predicted lineup: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Cork, McNeil; Lennon, Rodriguez

Watford predicted lineup: Foster; Ngakia, Cathcart, Samir, Kamara; Kayembe, Sissoko, Kucka; Dennis, King, Pedro

  • Both teams have found the net in five of Watford’s last seven Premier League games away from home
  • Burnley have drawn four of their last six home matches in the Premier League
