Burton Albion vs Lincoln City Predictions

      • Lincoln are without a league win since the first week in October.
      • Lincoln have won just one of nine games away from home in League 1 this season.
      • No League 1 team has conceded less home goals than Burton during the current campaign.

      Defence the key for Burton

This season probably hasn’t quite gone as Burton would’ve liked. Having finished a respectable 9th last term, Nigel Clough and his players would’ve been hoping to lay down a serious top-six challenge, though that’s yet to happen. Make no mistake, the Brewers are still a tough side to face while their position remains a respectable one. After all, they’re only six points off the play-off spots.

Away from home, Clough’s men are up there with League 1’s best, as they’ve got the third-best travelling record in the division, though at home, it’s a different story. A lack of goals has seriously hindered Burton’s ability to collect points at Pirelli Stadium, where the Brewers have scored a measly total of four in seven games.

However, as poor as their end-product has been, Burton have done an excellent job of both restricting teams and providing a last line of defence, as they’ve conceded just three goals in front of their own fans. Unsurprisingly, no team in League 1 has conceded fewer home goals.

Improvements needed as far as Imps are concerned

In contrast to Burton’s away-day efforts, Lincoln have struggled hugely when playing away from home. They’ve got the fifth-worst away record in the division and are now without an away win since the second week in August.

Lincoln fans would’ve been hoping that Michael Appleton, who took charge over two months ago, would’ve been able to turn things around by now, though there’s been little improvement at Sincil Bank.

The main problem for The Imps when they play away is that they lack both creativity and end-product. They’re not a team that gets battered, who cannot compete defensively, but because they lack goals, scoring just two in their last five on the road, they’re finding it extremely tough to get their noses in front.

Lack of goals on the cards

The strengths and weaknesses of this pair point towards ‘Both Teams to Score – NO’ being a good bet at the current prices. Burton, by scoring an average of just 0.57 goals, have struggled to do the business offensively at home, while Lincoln have found it tough to get going on the road, scoring an average of just 0.8. Moreover, neither side have made a habit of scoring regular goals, especially not Burton at home, who’ve conceded only three and seven and who’ve kept a clean sheet in four of their last five at home. The fact that Burton rank as the worst home team in terms of shots on target for but are the third-best in terms of shots on target against fuels the selection further.
