Burundi vs Guinea Predictions

Group B isn’t that opening heading into the final round of games, but there is a showdown in Cairo between Burundi and Guinea. While these two sides have been left outside of the top two, three points and third place could yet be enough to take a team through to the last 16. That certainly goes for a side like Burundi, who are coming off the back of narrow defeats. They could yet book a second-round place after taking no points from two games, but can they win their final clash?

Burundi’s attacking style has brought two solid displays in Egypt. However, they’ve lost 1-0 in both games following some poor finishing. They lack the forward presence required at this level. However, they remain in the mix to finish third, as long as they can find a finishing touch to add to their game. For a side at their first Africa Cup of Nations, Burundi’s build-up play and assured displays are a real positive, they just need to get things right in the final third. However, they don’t really have many options to fix their misfiring strikers.

Guinea would have expected to be fighting it out for a spot in the second round. They do tend to make it out of the group when they qualify for this tournament – having made four quarter-finals in their last five AFCON campaigns. The 2025 hosts will be pushing for another appearance in the knockout round, but they need to improve on their displays so far. They’ve taken a point from their first two, so they need a win to stay in the mix for the last 16.

Guinea will be boosted by the fact that they’re facing a side who have lost both of their AFCON games, having been beaten in three matches on the spin. Burundi may have impressed to make this competition, but they’ve failed to do much since. A four-game run without a win since booking their place in Egypt hasn’t done much for confidence for the Swallows.

Meanwhile, Guinea have a proven track record at this competition. They were also unbeaten in the qualifying campaign, so we expect them to get a result from this clash. With Burundi on a three-match losing streak, we don’t expect the misfiring side to get a result. Their big issues remain – they don’t have a clinical edge and they are prone to leaking a goal at the back. While the Swallows are failing to score, they’ve also been unable to keep a clean sheet in seven. With that in mind, we’re backing Guinea to get the victory.
