Bury vs Notts County Predictions

Bury are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions, including a midweek win against Leicester City U21s. However, they have drawn their last three matches and need to get a win to make the unbeaten run count.

In their most recent match, away at Crewe over the weekend, the match finished 1-1, which certainly flattered the home side. Bury dominated throughout the match, with 21 attempts on goal, with some fantastic goalkeeping from Ben Garratt keeping them at bay. Crewe scored with one of their two shots on target but Nicky Maynard scored an equaliser in the second-half to ensure the points were shared.

New signing Maynard has certainly hit the ground running for Bury, as he also scored twice in the previous game against Mansfield Town. His second was a scissor kick in injury-time to make it 2-2 and rescue yet another point for Bury, with his first of the game also an equaliser. Whilst Bury manager Ryan Lowe will have been disappointed with a home draw, the character of his side to rescue a point should be praised.

A decent away draw at Northampton and an impressive win against a Colchester who had lost twice in the season at the moment has rounded off what has been a good run for Bury. They look a strong outfit, with experienced players like Nicky Maynard, Neil Danns, and Chris Dagnall forming a strong core and placing themselves well for a promotion push.

Their opponents, Notts County, have started to reach their potential under Harry Kewell, winning their last three league matches. The most recent was a well-fought victory away at bottom-side Macclesfield, which was largely even, until the visitors won a penalty in the last ten minutes, which veteran Jon Stead put away coolly to grab all three points.

It was the latest positive result for Kewell’s side, who also secured impressive home wins against Crawley and Crewe. Against his former side, Kewell created a winning tactical plan to see off Crawley, so much so, they managed to do it with ten men for most of the second half, even scoring another goal. Arguably the most important, however, was their win against Crewe, their first of the season. The hosts fully deserved that win through their determination and refusal to accept a draw, with Elliott Hewitt grabbing a second-half winner.

In Kewell’s first two matches, they had drawn at Northampton and against Stevenage to lay the basis for the unbeaten run but before that, the club was a shambles. Despite spending big money in the summer to bring in players like Kane Hemmings and Enzio Boldewijn, the club lost eight of their first nine games, resulting in former manager Kevin Nolan being sacked. Now with Kewell at the helm, the club has some momentum behind them and the team are playing some decent football, which was surely send them up the table.

Indeed, we think they will be more than a match for Bury in this game. It should be an exciting match, with both teams in decent form, particularly in attack. That is why we think backing Over 2.5 Goals would be a smart bet to make. In terms of a correct score, we think honours could finish even. Despite their unbeaten run, Bury have drawn their last three and have to come from behind in their last two, whilst Notts County were rather fortunate to beat Macclesfield. Thus, a 2-2 prediction seems appropriate for what should be a good game of football.
