Bury vs Stevenage Predictions
After being distracted by the FA Cup first round last weekend, the Football League returns to action this Saturday and at Gigg Lane, Bury look to prove their promotion credentials when they face off against fellow promotion hopefuls Stevenage. With both sides capable of competing with the best in the division, it promises to be an entertaining afternoon of football.
Bury have only lost one of their last eight games after a 4-1 win at Macclesfield a fortnight ago and proved their excellent form last weekend when they dominated Dover in the FA Cup with a 5-0 victory. The hosts have been particularly strong at home this term and have managed an impressive average of two goals per game in front of their own fans. That goal scoring return perhaps should not come as a shock as they are the third highest scorers in League Two, with 28 goals coming from their 17 league outings so far.
Making the trip to Gigg Lane is a Stevenage side who have proven to be worthy contenders so far this season. The visitors sit eighth in League 2 but were dumped out of the FA Cup last week as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Plymouth Argyle. It was a result which would have been disappointing for their fans, but given their stature in the English game, it would not have been a huge disappointment as it gives them the opportunity to focus on winning promotion come the end of the season.
Unlike their hosts, Stevenage have achieved the majority of their success as a result of a strong defensive unit. However, given the goal-scoring prowess of their hosts, they know that they are going to have to prove their own capabilities in front of goal if they have any hopes of a positive result this weekend. With this in mind, we think that backing both teams to score represents the best opportunity of a decent return.
