      Cardiff vs Middlesbrough Predictions

Both sides will be pretty satisfied with how their campaign has gone so far but will be hopeful that recent blips don’t turn into anything more serious. Boro were imperious for several weeks, racking up 7 wins on the trot in late August and September.

However October hasn’t treated them well so far and they are yet to score in 2 Championship outings this month, going down 2-0 at Reading prior to a goalless draw with Fulham on Saturday at the Riverside. They are still in 2nd place but are now joined by 3 other sides on 21 points and trail leaders Brighton by 4.

Cardiff aren’t in great form either with only 1 win from their last 5 league matches. That came at home to a badly out of form Charlton and it’s hard to see them getting the better of Boro given some of their recent performances.

They have though displayed a resilience that was at times lacking last year and ended Brighton’s 100% record with a 1-1 draw on the South Coast just prior to the international break. They drew again at the weekend, this time away to Preston but aren’t looking as dangerous in the final third as Russell Slade might like.

Both sides come into this match on the back of goalless draws and it is likely to be a relatively cagey game too. Cardiff will be wary of Middlesbrough’s attacking talent and won’t be as forward thinking as they usually are at home. Boro can at times be a little one-dimensional and in some games this season they have struggled to break down some of the lesser sides who’ve tried to stifle their play.

Cardiff are a bit better than that but given they aren’t in good form may be pleased if this turns into a scrappy cautious game and certainly backing one of these two sides to fail to net at 4/5 looks to be worth a punt.

If there is to be a winner, it is still most likely to be the visitors. Boro did the double over Cardiff last season and if anything have improved since then. They look decent value at 11/2 to repeat last year’s 1-0 win in South Wales.
