Cardiff vs Wrexham Predictions
- Cardiff have won their last four home games
- The Bluebirds beat Roma 4-1 at home in pre-season
- Wrexham have failed to score in three straight 1-0 defeats, including pre-season
Welsh rivalry makes Monday reappearance
Cardiff and Wrexham renew a long‑dormant league rivalry on Monday night, meeting for the first time in the Championship since 2001‑02. The fixture should be a cracker with the Bluebirds already appearing to be in red-hot form after a 4-1 pre-season win over Roma.
Brian Barry-Murphy’s men won 17 of 23 home games in League One last term and closed out the campaign with three straight victories at the Cardiff City Stadium. Their promotion push was powered by the ruthless finishing of Yousef Salech, who struck 15 goals despite missing 12 matches through injury.
Salech was on target twice and assisted their other goal in a 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Swindon last weekend that had Robins boss Ian Holloway comparing Cardiff to a “mini Man City”.
Parkinson’s men on a losing run after tough pre-season
Wrexham, by contrast, finished seventh last season and won only two of their final seven league games. Phil Parkinson praised their effort in the narrow Carabao Cup loss at Middlesbrough, but admitted they lacked the “clinical edge” needed to turn good build‑up play into goals.
It was always going to be a tough assignment at the Riverside Stadium on the back of a long pre-season tour in the US and it may be a while before Wrexham feel the benefits.
Cardiff look well-placed to start fast and catch Parkinson’s side off guard at their home fortress, with a 2-1 victory potentially on the cards. Although the Red Dragons have failed to score in three consecutive defeats to Liverpool, Sunderland and Boro, they have the quality in their ranks to get on the scoresheet in the Welsh capital.
