Ceara’s home comforts

Well traveled manager Tiago Nunes has made Ceara difficult to beat on home soil.

They have suffered just one defeat at Estádio Castelão since mid-June, and that came at the hands of second placed Palmeiras.

A 2-1 defeat to Athletico-PR in midweek will have dented confidence, but a return to more familiar surroundings means a predicted return to winning ways.

Poor form for Sport Recife

Sport Recife meanwhile have plummeted into the relegation zone after a run of just one win in seven matches, including a 3-2 defeat to Atletico Mineiro in midweek when they conceded a 98th minute goal.

That result will be tough to bounce back from, and with just six games left to make up a six point gap to climb out of the bottom four, time is running out to save their season.

They have had problems at both ends of the field, but particularly in front of goal, with their total of 19 goals scored the lowest in Serie A.

It is difficult to see them breaking down a Ceara defence who have won each of their last two home games without conceding, and given Sport Recife’s issues at the back, a 2-0 home victory is my prediction.
