It has been a tough start to the season for Celta Vigo but there have been slight improvements over the past week. They lost all of their opening 3 leagues, all against Madrid opposition but picked up their first point on Sunday with a 0-0 draw at Osasuna in a game they had the better of. That was just 3 days on from a solid 1-1 draw at Standard Liege in the Europa League so they have something to build from at least and will be really targeting the win here. New signing Giuseppe Rossi scored in that game and with Iago Aspas for company, they do at least have a couple of players who have a track record of scoring goals in this league and they should get more opportunities in this match with Sporting Gijon not great at the back.

The Asturias side were hammered 5-0 at Atletico Madrid on Saturday and it has just burst their early season bubble somewhat. They are still in 8th place after a couple of early home wins but that is almost certainly a false position as their playing squad doesn’t look as strong as the one that only survived on the final day last term. They aren’t really a side suited to sitting back and defending, which was half their problem at the weekend and could be again here although perhaps not to quite the same extent.

Both these teams look weaker on paper than they were last term in truth but Celta still have the core of their side remaining, although they are obviously missing the spark provided by Nolito. They are not as bad as 1 point from 4 games suggests and this might just be the ideal game to get their season off and running against a team that will be a bit edgy at the back, given their heavy defeat at the Vicente Calderon.

Sporting have only won 1 of their last 17 away games in La Liga, losing 11 of them and given those stats, backing Celta Vigo -1.0 Asian Handicap at 2.025 looks a solid bet here.
