Celtic vs Ajax Predictions
Celtic may be starting to flex their muscles in the Scottish Premiership, but in Europe they are seriously struggling to find wins.
They were eliminated from the Champions League prior to the group stages as Malmo beat them 5-3 on aggregate, and the Europa League hasn’t been much kinder to them.
Celtic have drawn two and lost two of their four group games so far, with the draws coming in the form of 2-2 scorelines against Ajax and Fenerbahce and a double of losses to group leaders Molde making up the losses.
They have won three of their last five games in all competitions, losing to Molde and drawing on Saturday at home to Kilmarnock. This leaves them six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, but all eyes will be on the Europa League results now.
Celtic are propping up Europa League Group A with a return of two points. Ajax sit one point above them in 3rd. Molde top the group having already qualified on ten points, and they can secure the top spot with a win over 2nd placed Fenerbahce on Thursday, who have five points to their name.
Ajax are also sitting at the top of their domestic league, holding a three point advantage over 2nd placed Eredivisie side Feyenoord.
They have won two of their last five games in all competitions, hammering Roda 6-0 and Cambuur 5-1 alongside goalshy draws with Fenerbahce and Feyenoord and a loss to Feyenoord.
Both sides desperately need a win in this game in order to move closer to a qualification spot in their Europa League group, but both sides will also be fighting off the demons of poor form in Europe.
Nine of Ajax’s last ten games on the road have seen them set out with fairly defensive tactics and end the match with two or fewer goals. I think this statistics makes odds of 1/1 for Under 2.5 Goals look very good value, so I’m going for that along with a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2.
