Tip Reasoning

  • Celtic have scored 16 goals and conceded four in their last four matches (total average 5.0 goals).
  • At least four goals have been scored in St Mirren’s last three Premiership away games.
  • Celtic’s last three home league games have finished 6-0, 4-0 and 6-0.

Hoops have formula for high-scoring games

After breaking records by failing to win any of his first three games in charge, Ange Postecoglu is on a roll with Celtic following four wins on the bounce.

His side have been brilliant going forward in those games, scoring 16 goals and missing plenty of chances for more, but still look shaky at the back.

The centre-back pairing can get caught square and there is still some bedding in for Joe Hart in goal, although he is an upgrade on what was there before him.

All this offers encouragement for a high-scoring Saturday afternoon skirmish with St Mirren, who have scored eight times in their last three Premiership away trips.

The Buddies have scored in 65% of their away league games since the start of last season and look to have the makings of a good strike partnership going between Curtis Main and Eamon Brophy.

Jim Goodwin’s side won 2-1 at Parkhead last season and while they may be up against a side with more attacking verve this weekend, Celtic are no better than last year in defensive terms.

Over 3.5 goals has landed in the last three St Mirren away games and also in three of the last four Celtic matches, which include a 2-4, 6-0 and 3-2 scorelines.

Our prediction of 3-1 to the hosts is based on the brimming confidence currently within Postecoglu’s side and the likelihood that they will need at least two to secure victory again.
