Central Coast Mariners vs Brisbane Roar Predictions
- Central Coast Mariners have lost three of their last five, picking up six points from a possible fifteen in their bid to avoid bottom spot in the A-League.
- Brisbane Roar have finally found their feet, going four games unbeaten and sitting just two points off the playoff places.
- Central Coast have averaged just a goal a game this season, the second worst record in the league.
- Brisbane Roar have scored 15 goals in 13 games this season, averaging 1.15 goals per game.
- Brisbane Roar have beaten the natural handicap in their last four matches.
Can Central Coast increase their advantage in the battle at the bottom?
Central Coast Mariners have had a season that hasn’t really got going as yet with the side enjoying surprise wins over Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United in recent weeks but failing to pick up any points against Wellington or Western United. This leaves them in 10th place, although they hold a four point advantage over Newcastle Jets at the bottom of the table.
There isn’t really an area of the pitch where Central Coast have excelled this season with their offensive record looking poor with just a goal a game on average. Their defensive record doesn’t make much better reading with the side conceding 24 goals in 13 games, an average of 1.84 goals per game.
Can Robbie Fowler see his side in the top six for the first time?
Brisbane Roar have taken a while to hit their stride this season but they’ve now gone four games unbeaten picking up wins over Wellington and Western Sydney in the past three weeks. This string of results has seen them rise to seventh in the table and a win this weekend would see them enter the finals series places for the first time, albeit for potentially 24 hours.
Their attacking output still doesn’t look too impressive with the team averaging just 1.15 goals per game this season with 15 goals in 13 games but they’ve improved on this in recent weeks, averaging 1.5 goals a goal in their last four matches. Defensively there is a little improvement to be made with the team conceding 1.46 goals per game on average.
Who leaves the coast with the three points?
With Brisbane Roar hitting a nice run of form and Central Coast still struggling for form, we’re happy in predicting that Brisbane Roar will beat the handicap again. It currently sits at -0.25 goals meaning any Brisbane win nets us the victory whilst a draw between the two sides gives us half our stake back. The Roar have beaten the handicap in their last four matches and look good value to do so again.
Neither side has really been able to set the league alight in front of goal this season and we can see that happening once again this weekend, with a low scoring affair looking likely. We’re backing Brisbane Roar to pick up a narrow 1-0 win and bring our handicap prediction home as well as pushing themselves into finals series contention.
