Chapecoense vs Nacional Montevideo Predictions
Both Chapecoense and Nacional look to make up for defeats in the last round of Libertadores fixtures here. The defeats rather overshadowed good starts, in which both sides picked up 3 points. Chapecoense were defeated 3-1 on home soil by Argentine champions Lanus, whilst Nacional’s defeat was more concerning, an embarrassing 1-0 home defeat to group minnows Zulia. Said results place all four teams in the group on 3 points, so the race for a place in the knockouts is wide open.
Chapecoense can be confident in securing one of those places. The side’s current form is remarkable when you consider that they’ve had to bring in an almost entirely new squad following last year’s tragic plane crash on route to play the Sudamericana final. Saturday’s 2-0 win over Joinville was their eighth on the bounce and wrapped up the second phase of the Catarinense State League. There’s a really good feeling around the club once again, having gained a title, holding a lead in the Recopa Sudamericana as well as being well in the hunt in the Libertadores.
Nacional’s defeat to Zulia was entirely unexpected and has seriously impeded their hopes of progression. They went into the game on a run of eight straight wins, but despite dominating the encounter they failed to find a breakthrough. That freak result aside, it’s been a good year and Los Albo’s arrive high in confidence. Martín Lasarte’s men look well on course to regain their domestic title, currently leading the top flight after taking 26 points from 11 games.
This should be a really entertaining game in front of a passionate home crowd. Both teams take to the field in fine fettle and will be confident in securing a result that will have a massive say, as far as a passage to the knockouts is concerned.
Chapecoense are banging goals in for fun at the moment, scoring an average of 3.12 goals a game over their 8 match winning run. However, all of those games have come against lower quality opposition other than the Atletico Nacional tie in the Recopa, and their opponents will be sure to provide a stern test.
Both sides have found the net in Nacional’s last four games while Chapecoense’s two big home ties this season (Lanus and Atletico Nacional) have been enthralling encounters, with goals also going in at both ends. That makes odds of Evs seem more than fair and the price available simply has to be snapped up. As far as the match itself go, we see the hosts’ edging it with the backing of the crowd, in a 2-1 win.
