Charlton vs Huddersfield Predictions

  • Charlton have failed to win their last eight games.
  • The Addicks are hoping that Lyle Taylor can end their run of 5 losses in 6.
  • Huddersfield have scored in 100% of their away trips this season.
  • The visitors have conceded 33 times across 20 league games.

Charlton Facing the Drop?

This midweek is potentially huge for Lee Bowyer, as his side try and break their poor run of form. The mood at the club is high with owner Roland Duchatelet on the way out. However, the club are in awful form after failing to win their last eight games. That has pushed them down to 17th in the table.

The Addicks are only seven points clear of the drop, while they are five points above fourth-bottom Huddersfield. A loss to the Terriers this week could push the newly-promoted side back into trouble, with a speedy return to League One still a prospect.

Addicks’ Injury Struggles

The hosts have gone from surprise playoff contenders to the bottom eight after a string of injury setbacks. Lee Bowyer hasn’t had his strongest side available since August, while the weekend brought news of setbacks for Erhun Oztumer and Chuks Aneke. With absentees mounting in recent weeks, Charlton have lost five of their last six.

However, the good news for the home side is that they have got star forward Lyle Taylor back in the side. The striker was only recently taken over as their top scorer, despite having sat out for over two months. While he couldn’t impact Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Middlesbrough, his second-half appearance suggests he’ll feature prominently here.

Both Sides Struggling

Had Taylor stayed fit, he’d likely be fighting it out for the golden boot this term. His former teammate Karlan Grant is in the mix, with the Huddersfield forward hitting his 11th goal of the campaign in the Terriers’ loss at Bristol City. The striker is impressing on the road with six goals in nine trips, with the visitors finding the net in 100% of their away games this season.

Huddersfield are having their own troubles, with the visitors coming here without a win in five games, despite Grant’s form. They’ve shipped over two goals per game on the road this term, letting in 33 goals across their 20 matches in the Championship. The Terriers have conceded a goal in their last five matches, while both teams have scored in four of Charlton’s last five games.

The hosts will look to return to form this week, especially given that Huddersfield have failed to win every game in which they’ve conceded on the road this term. The hosts have added experience in Joe Ledley and have added quality in Taylor, while the visitors have lost 50% of their league games. Having seen the Terriers losing back to back trips – and five of their nine overall this term – we are backing a Charlton victory, with the Addicks winning both of their home meetings with bottom 10 sides this term.
