Chelsea vs Aston Villa Predictions
- Aston Villa have won ten matches in a row
- Both teams have scored in six of Villa’s last seven away matches
- Both teams have scored in five of Chelsea’s last seven outings
Blues face a battle against rampant Villans
Aston Villa made it a perfect ten wins in a row in all competitions with Sunday’s 2-1 success at home to Manchester United and with that they have emerged as dark horses in the Premier League title race.
Since losing 2-0 at Liverpool on the first day of November, Unai Emery’s side have won seven Premier League matches on the trot and that has included a 2-1 victory over leaders Arsenal as well as putting four goals past Bournemouth and Brighton.
Villa’s attacking players have been in flying form, with the instrumental Morgan Rogers leading the way, and they look sure to carry a big threat on the break against Chelsea.
The Blues are fourth, seven points behind third-placed Villa, and showed plenty of character as they clawed themselves from 2-0 down to rescue a point against Newcastle at St James’ Park.
But they have won only four of their eight home league games and that makes odds-on quotes easily opposable, especially given they have been beaten by Sunderland and Brighton and held by Crystal Palace in that run.
Goals to flow at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have won only two of their last seven matches in all competitions, winning 3-1 at League One Cardiff in the EFL Cup quarter-final and overcoming Everton 2-0 at the Bridge, so Villa will be optimistic of keeping their remarkable run going.
However, backing both teams to score and over 2.5 goals may be the most prudent play, especially when you consider the attacking talent on show.
Chelsea have managed only two clean sheets in their last seven outings and shutting out a Villa side on a rampant run that has netted at least twice in nine of their last ten fixtures looks a tough task.
That said, Villa are hardly relying on their defensive discipline to grind out results as they have conceded in seven of their last eight victories and both teams have scored in six of their last seven on the road.
Villa’s last two away league games have seen them edge to a 3-2 success at West Ham and win 4-3 in a thriller at Brighton, and the goals should continue to flow when they head to the capital.
Both teams have also scored in three of the last four meetings between the sides, one of which ended in a 2-2 draw, and that could be the way to go for correct-score punters with Chelsea far from convincing odds-on favourites.
