A 1-0 loss in the Community Shield to Arsenal at the start of the season was just considered a minor blip at the beginning of Chelsea’s Premier League title defence, a title defence they were expected to be successful in.
But five games in to the Premier League season and all is not well with Jose Mourinho’s plans. They have picked up just four points from their opening five matches and find themselves just outside the relegation zone rather than towards the top of the table.
Their ageing defence is being exposed over and over again, and they have already conceded 12 goals in the league.
Jose Mourinho’s usually unbeatable home tactics have shown unsuccessful as we saw his side lose to Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge, and it all seems to be falling apart for the Blues.
Maccabi Tel Aviv have started their season better than their English counterparts and find themselves in 2nd position in the Israeli top flight.
Their seven points have come from two wins and a draw, but they haven’t looked particularly dominant in any of their matches so far.
They struggled in the Champions League playoff as well, with home and away draws against Swiss Super League side Basel seeing them progress to the group stages on away goals.
The bookies are heavily favouring Chelsea for this tie, and it’s understandable. They have a star studded squad and a good record in the competition, but I wouldn’t put anything past this Chelsea back line at the moment.
The odds are ridiculously good for Maccabi Tel Aviv to get something from this game, and 5/1 for a Tel Aviv Win or Draw Double Chance would be a good bet for a couple of quid.
But Chelsea will probably take the win, so the better bet for me is backing Under 2.5 Goals at excellent value odds of 7/5.
