Reason For Chelsea vs Norwich Predictions

  • Chelsea have won five of their last seven Premier League games and scored 16 goals in the process.
  • Norwich hold the Premier League’s worst defensive record and have conceded three or more goals on nine occasions this season.
  • Norwich have failed to score in six of their last seven Premier League matches.
  • Willian has scored in each of his last four home appearances for Chelsea.

Blues’ Champions League hopes dented

Chelsea’s top four aspirations took a significant blow on Saturday as they were stunned by a Sheffield United side chasing European football themselves. The Blades picked up an emphatic 3-0 victory against a well below-par Chelsea outfit, leaving Frank Lampard’s side only two points above 5th place Manchester United having played a game more.

With The Red Devils in action on Monday, there’s a very good chance Chelsea could find themselves below Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side come Tuesday, but given the form Norwich are in right now it’s not likely to stay that way for long.

Dismal Norwich see their fate sealed

The Canaries were finally put out of their misery on Saturday as they relegation from the top flight was confirmed. It was a performance befitting their standing at the bottom of the Premier League table, with Michail Antonio running them ragged as West Ham secured a 4-0 thrashing of Daniel Farke’s men.

This was Norwich’s seventh consecutive defeat in the Premier League and, with only three games remaining, they have collected a meagre total of 21 points so far. Relegation was undoubtedly a deserved outcome, but now the question is how they will respond to the demotion.

It’s hard to see the visitors getting anything from this match. Chelsea may have suffered some dismal defeats since the restart, but they have still won five of their last seven Premier League games and have netted an impressive 16 goals during this period. That doesn’t bode well for a visiting defence that harbours the league’s worst defensive record.

Indeed, Norwich have conceded 15 goals in the six league games since the resumption of football, shipping at least three goals on three occasions. Their torrid defensive displays are by no means limited to their behind closed doors matches either – they have conceded three or more on nine separation occasions in the Premier League this season, including in their home defeat to Chelsea back in August 2019.

Chelsea to bounce back in style

Chelsea, meanwhile, have scored at least three goals in three of their last seven league matches, and all of those came in their four matches against teams in the bottom half of the table. With this in mind, we’re predicting Chelsea to return to winning ways in style and backing Chelsea over 2.5 team goals looks a great option.

The Canaries aren’t just poor at the back – they have also failed to score in six of their last seven league games and have netted a league-low 26 times this season. Only seven of these have come away from home and they have failed to find the net in 11 of their 17 trips away. Chelsea’s last home game ended in a 3-0 win over Watford, and that’s what we’re backing for our correct score prediction here.

Willian finds his shooting boots

Chelsea have a number of very threatening players, and while Christian Pulisic has been stealing the limelight of late it’s a fellow winger from the Americas that is piquing our interest.

Blues veteran Willian has been in scintillating form lately, scoring four goals and assisting three more since the restart. He has scored in five of his last nine appearances in all competitions and each of his last four Stamford Bridge outings have resulted in a goal for the 31-year-old Brazilian. Backing him to get on the scoresheet looks a fantastic option in the anytime goalscorer market.
