Cheltenham vs Mansfield Town Predictions

At the start of the season the expectation for Cheltenham Town was they they were not expected to trouble the higher placed teams in the league and those expectations have been pretty accurate in the early stages of the campaign. However, this weekend they have the opportunity to prove their doubters wrong when they welcome an in form Mansfield Town side to Whaddon Road.

Cheltenham showed no signs of their poor recent form in midweek as they thrashed ten-man Arsenal under 23s 6-2 in the EFL Trophy. It was a welcome relief to their dismal form in the league and the Robins go into this match having failed to win any of their previous eight outings. A major part of their poor form is their inability to perform in front of their own fans and they have managed just two points on home soil this season.

Mansfield Town moved up to ninth in midweek as they secured a comfortable 3-0 victory against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road. Although they have been in much better form of late, their league position will still be a source of concern for the Stags as they were widely tipped to be among the sides challenging for the League Two title come the end of the campaign. The visitors may not be the force many thought they would be this season but they do have the sort of defensive stability that allows them to win when they are not at their best and this is shown perfectly by the fact that they have kept four clean sheets in their previous six league matches.

Given the relative form of these two sides, it is hard to imagine that the hosts will be able to come away from this match with all three points. Cheltenham have lost 71% of their home matches and given that Mansfield will come into this match with plenty of confidence, we think that backing an away win in this victory makes perfect sense.
