Tip Reasoning

Chesterfield’s fate has finally been sealed and it’s now known that they’ll be plying their trade in League Two next season. On the other hand, Charlton will be staying in League One for another season at least, although they’ve not exactly been convincing this season.

From a betting point of view, with neither of these two teams having anything left to fight for, this isn’t the easiest of fixtures to call. At the prices, the bet that stands out is ‘Under 2.5 Goals’.

In such fixtures, where neither side has anything to play for, at this late stage of the season, it’s fairly easy to assume that the fans in attendance at the Proact won’t be treated to a classic. With this in mind, a goal-filled encounter doesn’t appear all that likely.

Neither of these two have been particularly sturdy at the back in their respective home and away matches this season, hence their lowly positions. However, the catalyst here, other than the aforementioned lack of motivation, could be the fact that both have been pretty poor in the final third. In recent weeks, Chesterfield have managed just three goals in their last five matches. Charlton might have five in their last five but they’ve certainly not been known as the highest-scorers in this division and aren’t likely to be going out all guns blazing here.

From a goals point of view, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ has landed in 55% of Chesterfield’s home matches this season and in 45% of Charlton’s away matches. Which means, if you’re of the opinion that neither will be going too mad here, that ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ and 11/10, represents a slice of value.

In what is in all honesty one of Saturday’s far less appealing League One encounters, getting behind a lacklustre performance from both and thus a lack of goals is the best way to go.
