Crystal Palace vs Grimsby Town Predictions

Crystal Palace are on twenty-two points and occupy fourteenth position in the Premier League after an impressive win away at Wolves on Wednesday, and head into Saturday’s FA Cup tie against League Two Grimsby with the home advantage and as the bookmakers huge favourites to win. The visitors have won four of their last six matches and wont have any pressure on them this weekend, which could go against Palace if the Premier League side don’t take a grip of this game early on.

Crystal Palace’s trip to Wolverhampton didn’t produce the most exciting of matches for the neutrals, nor the fans in attendance, who saw just six shots on target during the ninety minutes. However, the away fans were in great voice, especially in the second half when their side broke the deadlock seven minutes from time through Ayew and then confirmed the victory in stoppage time when penalty master Milivojević made it 2-0. Wolves were fairly beaten in the end as Palace had more of the overall possession, ten corners to their hosts three, and twice as many shots on target during the ninety minutes.

The New Year started with a huge disappointment for Grimsby as one of their former players returned to Blundell Park to score the winning goal for Mansfield Town. Midfielder Neal Bishop, now 37-years old, spent four seasons where he achieved 168 appearances and scored 11 goals in the league for the Magpies, and it was his solitary strike in the twenty-first minute that saw Mansfield Town claim all three points. The match itself was very even throughout the ninety minutes and a draw would probably have been the fair result, but New Years Day belonged to veteran midfielder Bishop and his current employers Mansfield Town.

You have to go back to 2003 to find the last meeting between these two clubs, where a rampant Crystal Palace claimed all three points in Grimsby and the hosts later went on to get relegated. With four wins and two defeats from their last six matches, visitors Grimsby head into Saturday’s game as the form favourites. Palace have won three, drawn one, and lost two of their last six and aren’t too far behind their guests in the form guide. Milivojević top scores in the league for Palaces this season with six goals, five of which have come from the penalty spot. Thomas leads the way in front of goal for Grimsby this season with seven goals in League Two and will provide the visitors most likely source of goals this weekend.

We’re confident that Palace will win and over 2.5 goals will be scored in the process, and have backed a comfortable 3-0 final score. Four of the last five meetings between the two clubs have produced over 2.5 goals, and Crystal Palace have won three of the last four encounters. Crystal Palace have won three of their last five matches in the Premier League and really shouldn’t have too much trouble getting past their League Two opponents.
