After managing to pick up a respectable 12 points from their ten games in Euro 2016 qualification, Cyprus will be a bit disappointed with how the start of their World Cup qualifiers have gone.

Their 3-0 defeat to Belgium was pretty much expected, but they have followed that with rather toothless performances against Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina to leave them with zero points from three games.

Cyprus’ defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina last time out made it six losses on the bounce for them, with them failing to score in four of these and conceding a disappointing 13 at the other end.

Fortunately for them they are up against the lowest rated side in the competition on Sunday when they host Gibraltar. The visitors have never won a competitive match, although they were only granted permission to play in 2014.

They have lost 18 of their 21 matches since then, winning a friendly against Malta over two years ago and drawing friendlies against Estonia and Liechtenstein. They have scored a grand total of six goals in this spell, and their current squad have just three goals between them.

Gibraltar’s last match saw them lose 6-0 at home to Belgium to make it five defeats in a row. During these five games they have found the net once and conceded a huge 24 at the other end of the pitch.

Away from home it somehow gets even worse for them. They have lost eight and drawn one of their nine away days in history, scoring three goals and conceding 43. That’s nearly five goals conceded per game, and they haven’t conceded fewer than four goals in any of their last eight away matches.

Considering these extraordinary statistics I think the best bet is to back Cyprus to score a fair few. They might not have been the best in front of goal recently but they have been known to bag a few against weak opposition. Gibraltar’s tragic defence certainly classes as weak opposition, so I think odds of 5/4 for Cyprus Over 3.5 Team Goals are good value, as is 13/2 for a 4-0 correct score prediction.
