Derby County vs Ipswich Predictions
It’s been an awful start to the season for Derby who find themselves languishing in 19th place with only 5 points to their name. The appointment of Nigel Pearson brought optimism that he could be the man to finally end their wait for a return to the top flight, but it isn’t looking too promising right now.
Their problem is, to put it simply,is they’re not scoring goals and have netted just once in 6 Championship matches so far this season. They did some late business in the transfer window with the aim of solving the issue but there were no obvious signs of improvement in the 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle at the weekend, although this game will provide them with a better chance of ending their goal drought.
Ipswich also look to have regressed from last year, although it’s still very early days. They looked to be heading for a point on Friday night but conceded an injury time penalty to lose 2-1 at Reading and end a 3 game unbeaten streak in the league. They are in 15th place now and their problems are similar to those of the Rams. Since a 4-2 opening day win over newly promoted Barnsley, they’ve scored just 3 goals in 6 matches and 1 of those was from the penalty spot on Friday in a game where all 3 goals came from the spot.
Given that, it’s very hard to see this being anything other than a low scoring contest. Ipswich are likely to come here with a relatively defensive approach and we feel the Derby crowd may turn on their team if they can frustrate them for an hour or so.
There have been under 2.5 goals in 5 of Ipswich’s last 6 games and all of Derby’s last 9, so backing Under 2.5 Goals at 4/6 looks a safe bet here and the recent history of this fixture backs that up.
