Eintracht Braunschweig vs Kaiserslautern Predictions

Eintracht Braunschweig remain top of the table and two points ahead of rivals Hannover 96 after taking a point away from the inform Heidenheim with a 1-1 draw last time out. Braunschweig were unusually passive going forward with Heidenheim dominating possession in midfield and took the lead midway through the first half. Braunschweig were ultimately reliant on centre forward Domi Kumbela, who struck late into the second half to tally his sixth goal in eight appearances, to make it level pegging. Though Braunschweig haven’t beaten Kaiserslautern in any of the nine meetings between them since 1985 (D5 L4), they’ll find some comfort in their 100% win record at home.

FC Kaiserslautern, who finished 10th in the 2. Bundesliga last season, have had an uncharacteristically poor start to the new campaign. The guests have won just one of their opening eight matches and come into this off the back of a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to relegation strugglers Arminia Bielefeld. Though Kaiserslautern were unlucky not to leave with more than a point, their frustration in their inability to break down the Bielefeld back line showed. Kaiserslautern’s players showed a lack of desire and left-back Marcel Gaus found himself leaving the pitch early with a yellow/red sending off in the 70th minute.

Braunschweig are the bookies’ favourites ahead of this match at 17/20 and we fancy “the Lions” to end their 30 years winless streak against Kaiserslautern here. Eintracht-Stadion is a fortress that’s hard to break down for visiting sides, particularly for those such as Kaiserslautern that are not motivated to give 100%. Braunschweig have lost just one of their last 16 home matches (W10 D5 L1) and have won all four of their home matches so far this season (three 2-1 wins and one 6-1 win against a comparably unmotivated Nurnberg side). Kaiserslautern, meanwhile, have taken just one point from their three away matches so far and have lost 6 of their last 9 on the road (66% away defeats). While Braunschweig often win with both teams scoring, we fancy them to keep a clean sheet here. Kaiserslautern have failed to score in 6 of their 8 matches so far this season and have doubts over their top scorer ahead of this (see team news).

As such, Eintracht Braunschweig to win at 17/20 and Braunschweig to win 2-0 at 15/2 are our choice bets for this match.
