Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayern Munich Predictions
Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 defeat away to Freiburg last time out should do little to prevent the hosts from enjoying their best start to a Bundesliga campaign in years (W3 D1 L3). Frankfurt are playing with much more confidence and a completely different mindset than when they were fighting relegation last season. While hosting reigning champions Bayern Munich is no doubt a daunting task, Frankfurt can take comfort in the knowledge that they were the most difficult team for the Bavarians to score against last season – Bayern Munich scored just one goal over both meetings between them (one 0:0 draw and one 1-0 win).
Bayern Munich’s 100% winning start to the new Bundesliga season under Carlo Ancelotti finally came to an end with a 1-1 draw at home to the in-form Cologne last time out. Ancelotti has plenty of world class players to choose from, but one lesser known player has certainly been making a name for himself. Joshua Kimmich, the 21 year-old central midfielder, has built up a strong case to earn himself a place in the starting eleven. He scored the only goal in their draw against Cologne, taking his tally to five goals over six appearances in all competitions. Kimmich to score anytime at 9/2 seems really decent value considering his current form. Without a win in two competitive matches, Bayern may continue to rely on his energy to bounce back from this “poor” run against Frankfurt here.
Though Bayern’s record against most teams in the Bundesliga is pretty stellar, we feel Frankfurt shouldn’t do too badly holding off the reining champions here. For their standards, Bayern Munich have been “unconvincing” over their last three matches: a last minute gasp win against Hamburg, a deflating defeat to Atletico in the Champions League, and a tough battle against Cologne have taken their toll. Munich are showing signs of the general wear on a side always expected to win. Admittedly, Frankfurt remain huge underdogs, especially when considering that they have failed to score in any of their last eight meetings against Bayern Munich. However, combine this with the fact that the Bavarians have scored an average of just 1.6 goals per match over their last five and you can see why we feel this will be low scoring. Not to mention that six of the last nine meetings between the two sides have ended with under 2.5 goals scored.
As such, under 2.5 goals at 27/20 and Bayern Munich to win 1-0 at 13/2 with bet365 are our choice bets for this match.
