Eintracht Frankfurt vs Mainz Predictions
Second-from-bottom Eintracht Frankfurt find themselves six points adrift of outright safety following their 3-0 defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday. With Werder Bremen’s impressive 3-2 home victory over VfL Wolfsburg last weekend also coupled in, they find themselves four points behind Bremen and the relegation play off spot, which could offer some hope of survival. Only four matches remain in the Bundesliga campaign and Frankfurt cannot afford any further slip-ups as they fight to avoid dropping down a tier for the fifth time in their history.
Mainz 05’s analysis is much more favourable, despite a surrender of their two-goal lead in their 3-2 defeat to FC Koln last weekend. Mainz currently occupy sixth place and the final UEFA Europa League qualifying spot, but do so as one of three sides locked on 45 points, alongside Borussia M’gladbach and Schalke 04, only four point behind fourth-placed Hertha Berlin. Rhine-Main bragging rights are at stake and hold an added significance for both sides in this match.
Nioko Kovac now holds the poorest record of any Eintracht Frankfurt coach, losing 80% of his matches since he took over in March (W1 L4). Frankfurt’s 3-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend was their third-consecutive defeat and Frankfurt have only won one match in their last ten (W1 D3 L6) – a very unimpressive 1-0 triumph over bottom of the table Hannover 96. Mainz may have only won one of their last five away matches (W1 D2 L2), but it has been a tough selection of away fixtures and their victory was an impressive, albeit surprising, 2-1 away win against league leaders Bayern Munich.
Frankfurt have won just one of their last eight matches against Mainz 05 and since the injury of star striker Alexander Meier (12 goals in 19 appearances) they’ve experienced a serious goal drought. Frankfurt have only scored two goals in their last nine matches in the Bundesliga compared to Mainz 05 who have scored eight goals in their last four (an average of 2 goals per game). Combining the above analysis with the statistics below, we expect Mainz 05 draw no bet and a final score of Mainz 1-0 at 9/1 to both be solid bets.
