Dallas face United in non-conference clash

Western Conference playoff hopefuls Dallas and Eastern contenders DC United meet in Texas in midweek.

Dallas hold fifth spot in a tightly packed West with 29 points on the board, while the visitors are on 26 points but sit in the final postseason place in the East in ninth.

Home advantage key

There isn’t a great deal to separate these two teams in terms of quality but home advantage should prove the difference.

Dallas have won six of their 10 home games and have just two league defeats at this venue, while they overcame defending champions LAFC 2-0 in their last game at Toyota Stadium.

United have just one win in their last seven away in all competitions, losing five of those games, and that success came at lowly Inter Miami.

Visitors can strike in defeat

DC are generally good for a goal away from home and have only failed to score in one of their last four trips, and they average exactly one goal-per-game on their travels.

Dallas are hardly prolific scores and have only managed more than two goals in one fixture all season, and that came in the second round of fixtures back in March. The hosts are also without top scorer Jesus Ferreira as he is on Gold Cup duty with USMNT so a hard-fought 2-1 win for Dallas looks a reasonable correct score prediction.

Bernard Kamungo has stepped in to fill the void left by Ferreira and he marked his first start of the season with a goal against LAFC. The Tanzanian has two goals in nine MLS games despite appearing almost exclusively as a late substitute and he can add to his tally against DC.
