Ingolstadt vs Hamburg Predictions
Strugglers Ingolstadt and Hamburg meet for a key relegation battle at the halfway point in the season this Saturday.
Ingolstadt find themselves in an automatic relegation spot and four points from safety after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat away to Schalke 04. However, the Bavarian’s resurgence under coach Maik Walpurgis has seen them take ten points from their last seven Bundesliga matches (W3 D1 L3), five times as many points as over the rest of the season combined.
Hamburg, who also suffered a setback with a 1-0 away defeat last Saturday against Wolfsburg, stand just one point above the hosts in the relegation play-off position. Markus Gisdol’s side should fancy themselves to return to winning ways here, however: Ingolstadt have the worst home record in the Bundesliga (W1 D2 L5) and Hamburg have never lost against them (see head-2-head).
Although Ingolstadt are the bookies’ favourites here at 11/10, we feel that both teams to score at 19/20 has to be the safer bet for the following reasons: Ingolstadt’s unpredictable home form has seen them beat title contenders RB Leipzig and draw to Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg, but lose to much weaker teams like Freiburg and Augsburg – a category which Hamburg see themselves currently in. Ingolstadt have kept just one clean sheet (12.5%) at home so far this season and with Hamburg only failing to score in one of their last eight Bundesliga matches, scoring two or more in five of these (62.5%), we can’t expect Ingolstadt’s record to be improving any time soon. That said, Hamburg’s downfall has been in their defense. With just one clean sheet in their last five matches on the road, we should see the hosts snatch themselves at least a consolation goal too.
Regarding a correct score bet, Ingolstadt have conceded exactly two goals in five of their eight matches (62.5%) at home so far this season, which doesn’t do them any favours, considering Hamburg’s recent scoring form. As such, Hamburg to win 2-1 at odds of 12/1 seems a decent shout here.
