Ingolstadt vs Wolfsburg Predictions

Ingolstadt are under new leadership – that of coach Maik Walpurgis – after their 2-0 defeat at home to FC Augsburg just before the international break saw coach Markus Kauczinski’s short reign come to an end. Walpurgis has already done what Kauczinski couldn’t on his top flight managerial debut: Ingolstadt took all three points for the first time this season, breaking their 15 match win-less run which stretches back to last season, with a 1-0 win away to the struggling Darmstadt last Saturday.

Meanwhile, an unpromising start to the season has already set Wolfsburg on track to replicate, if not do worse, than their disappointing campaign last season. Though the Wolves come into this of the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to the in-form Schalke – their third consecutive Bundesliga defeat at home – Wolfsburg have been more consistent on the road and have one positive to take away from their recent performances – striker Mario Gomez, who hadn’t hit the back of the net until his match-day 8, has made encouraging progress. He’s scored four in his last five for Wolfsburg and would be a decent shout for an anytime goalscorer bet here (odds to follow).

Wolfsburg are slight favourites and very decent value with the bookies here at 31/20 considering both sides’ respective home and away forms; Wolfsburg have won four of their seven away matches (57%) across all competitions so far (W4 D1 L2), including their two most recent, and Ingolstadt have lost four of their five home matches (80%) this season (D1 L5). Though Ingolstadt come into this off the back of a small 1-0 win away to Darmstadt, it must be noted that Darmstadt are a much weaker side that Wolfsburg – Wolfsburg won 3-0 away to Darmstadt last time out on the road – and that this win was very much against the run of play. Not to mention that Ingolstadt had failed to score in the three matches prior to this.

Combining the above with the low scoring trends of both sides -Ingolstadt are the second lowest scoring side (8 goals) in the Bundesliga and Wolfsburg are the third (9 goals) – we feel that Wolfsburg 0.0 Asian Handicap at 7/8 seems about the best bet available. Wolfsburg to win 1-0 at 13/2 should also be a reasonable correct score bet here.
