FC Volendam vs Telstar Predictions

It’s fair to say that Hans De Koning’s honeymoon period at Volendam is over – Palingboeren have now lost three in a row after going down 2-1 at Roda JC last week, and are 15^th in the Eerste Divisie table as a result going into match day 19. They host a Telstar side immediately above them in 14^th here, and we should be set for a fairly close encounter at Kras Stadion.

Volendam went unbeaten in nine league matches following the appointment of Hans De Koning at the start of October, but the wheels have really come off for Palingboeren in recent weeks.

A sequence of five wins and four draws hauled the club to within touching distance of the Play-off places after a dismal start to the campaign, but their fine work has now been undone by three successive defeats.

Volendam went down 2-1 at Roda JC last week, following a loss by the same score line at home to Twente and a 5-1 hammering at NEC, and De Koning’s side are now back out with the washing in 15^th – seven points adrift of the top nine.

So it looks as though Volendam’s season will peter out after all as they’ll require a similar unbeaten spell to get back in the hunt, and that seems highly unlikely based on what they’ve shown over the past three weeks.

Nonetheless, they’ll be keen to finish 2018 with a victory, and the visit of 14^th placed Telstar to Kras Stadion this Friday presents Palingboeren with a realistic opportunity to oblige.

Telstar have also been struggling of late with just one win gained from their last five outings, and they were knocked over 2-4 by Jong PSV in Ijmuiden last week.

No team has been more in and out than Mike Snoei’s side this season as their record of seven wins, one draw and ten defeats implies – but they usually manage to do the business against teams in the bottom six or seven.

Telstar have won all of their matches this term against teams currently positioned below them in the table (five wins from five), so that spells danger for Volendam in this fixture – particularly with the hosts on such a downturn at the moment.

Moreover, Telstar have managed to bag four victories from nine outings on the road this season and won both league encounters against Volendam in 2017/18, so their odds of around 12/5 for this contest are very generous.

So we’re tentatively recommending small stakes on the visitors in this game between two very evenly matched teams, and if last term’s clashes are anything to go by, it should be an entertaining affair.
