Ferencvarosi TC to Win

Reason for tip

Ferencvaros have won their last three matches while Rangers have lost their last four away games in Europe. The Hungarian champions look good for the three points, having won three of their five Europa League games, drawing the other two.

Ferencvarosi TC 3-1

Reason for tip

Ferencvaros have scored an average of 2.4 goals at home in Europe this season, registering at least three on three of five occasions. They won 3-0 at the weekend in the league and could easily bag three more if Rangers cannot stop making defensive blunders, as they did against Braga last month. Rangers have scored in three of their five European aways, but never more than once.

Barnabas Varga To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Barnabas Varga has scored in nine of his last 13 appearances for Ferencvaros and is their top scorer in the Europa League with three goals in five games. He should be in the vicinity to capitalise on any defensive mistakes if Rangers cannot eradicate them from their system.

Rohl’s Rangers are on the brink

A defeat at Groupama Arena on Thursday would leave Rangers on the brink of Europa League elimination, but all the signs point to Ferencvaros being the stronger team at the moment.

The Hungarian champions sit sixth in the League phase table with 11 points from their five matches, 10 points and 27 places better off then the Light Blues. Danny Rohl’s side claimed their first point in Europe with a 1-1 home draw against Braga late last month, but it was a performance riddled with early nerves and they were again punished for slack defending.

These issues have been coming back to haunt them against better teams this season, and Rangers have found plenty better than them in Europe. The Ibrox club have lost seven and drawn one of their last eight games in either the Champions League qualifiers or Europa League.

Ferencvaros have no fear

Things do appear to be improving domestically with Gers unbeaten in the Premiership since Rohl took charge in October, but Ferencvaros are a cut above the likes of Livingston, Dundee and Kilmarnock.

Robbie Keane’s men came within a whisker of qualifying for the Champions League, only to fall at the final hurdle to Qarabag – who currently have almost double the points in that competition than Rangers’ conquerors Club Brugge.

Ferencvaros are without their first-choice keeper Denes Dibusz for this game, but his deputy kept a clean sheet in a comfortable 3-0 league win at the weekend as Fradi flew out of the blocks with their energetic pressing. Ferencvaros seemingly have no fear and their results indicate they are a team that attacks relentlessly and are undeterred by in-game setbacks.

Back the hosts to extend Rangers’ miserable European run with a 3-1 success on Thursday.
