Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Two of Finland’s recent home Nations League games finished 1-1. They were against teams that are currently ranked one and six places above Slovenia in FIFA’s rankings, which provides a good barometer for how this game ought to pan out.

Finland vs Slovenia Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in two of Finland’s last three competitive home games.
  • Both teams have scored in four of Slovenia’s last five competitive away games.
  • Benjamin Sesko has scored in five of his last seven appearances for Slovenia

Spoils could be shared in Helsinki

There should be goals at both ends when Finland host Slovenia in a Euro 2024 qualifier that should have a major bearing on which of the two nations makes it through to the finals.

Finland lost in Denmark before picking up a vital three points in Belfast back in March while Slovenia picked up maximum points from their Group H contests against Kazakhstan and San Marino.

This will be a much sterner test for Matjaž Kek’s men, who will be without captain Jan Oblak through injury, however as the Finns are usually solid at home.

Red-hot Sesko can get on the scoresheet

Huuhkajat were unbeaten at the Olympic Stadium in the Nations League – beating Montenegro 2-0 and holding Bosnia-Herzegovina and Romania, who are both ranked higher than Slovenia, to 1-1 draws. Markku Kanerva’s men may not quite have enough firepower to justify support at 11/8 or thereabouts in the match betting, but both teams will create opportunities.

The Finns had eight attempts against the Danes and seven in Northern Ireland while Slovenia racked up a total of 40 across their two wins against the group minnows.

Benjamin Sesko, who is joining RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg this summer, is the in-form goalscorer option worth backing in anytime markets. The Slovenian hitman has scored in five of his last seven internationals and 11 in his last 14 games overall for club and country.
