FK Qarabag and Both Teams To Score

      Reason for tip

Qarabag have gained seven points from their first five games in the Champions League and they will look to add to Ajax’s misery. The Dutch giants are the only team to not gain a point, but they have won their last two games under the stewardship of interim coach Fred Grim, so both teams to score looks a likely option.

      FK Qarabag 2-1

      Reason for tip

Qarabag have been involved in some entertaining games this season, and while Ajax have only scored one goal, their hosts have not been water-tight. The Horsemen have only kept one clean sheet and they have shipped nine goals in five matches.

      FK Qarabag vs Ajax Predictions

      • Qarabag have only lost one of their last nine games in all competitions
      • Qarabag have only kept one clean sheet in five Champions League games
      • Ajax have yet to gain a point in the League Phase, but they have won their last two Eredivisie games

Qarabag to add to Ajax’s woes

Azerbaijan Premier League champions Qarabag will look to bolster their chances of earning a seeded spot in the knockout phase of the Champions League when they play host to Ajax on Wednesday.

The hosts are 19th ahead of matchday six, having earned seven points from their first five games. While they have enjoyed themselves so far, Ajax have had a torrid campaign.

In the Eredivisie, they are fourth and 14 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven, while in Europe, they have yet to earn a point from five fixtures.

Manager John Heitinga was relieved of his duties in November and interim coach Fred Grim lost his first three matches in charge, but he has now guided his side to successive victories.

Ajax beat Groningen 2-0 before they overcame Sittard 3-1 on the road and confidence will at least be a little higher ahead of the long trip to Azerbaijan.

Qarabag fell to a 2-0 defeat to Napoli in Europe last time out, but they held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw in November and they have beaten FC Copenhagen and Benfica.

Ajax look a level below their rivals this season in Europe’s premier competition and a trip to Baku is the last thing they need as they try to rebuild under Grim.
