Fortuna Sittard vs De Graafschap Predictions

All three newly promoted clubs have found life in the Eredivisie to be as tough as expected, with the trio all occupying positions in the bottom five. Fortuna Sittard and their guests this weekend De Graafschap both have seven points to their name, but the hosts sit one place above on goal difference.

Fortuna Sittard made the trip to Emmen before the international break, where the two clubs produced a six-goal thriller that will live long in the memory. The visitors came from behind twice to rescue a point late on, but the game will have felt like a victory for Fortuna Sittard after they spent the majority of the match behind.

An own goal from Dammers in the thirty-seventh minute handed Emmen a half time lead at the De Oude Meerdijk, and when Arias made it 2-0 in the sixty-fifth minute, a comeback looked beyond Fortuna Sittard. Lisandro Semedo did manage to pull a goal back for the visitors in the seventieth minute, but three minutes after, Emmen restored their two goal advantage through Bannink.

Emmen sat back and attempted to defend their lead in the final ten minutes, which turned out to be a mistake as Stokkers first made it 3-2 in the eightieth minute and in stoppage time teammate José Rodríguez scored a dramatic equaliser and the game ended 3-3. Fortuna Sittard certainly deserved their point, that there can be no denying, as they held 52% of the possession and created more goal scoring opportunities than their hosts.

American forward Novakovich top scores with four league goals for Fortuna Sittard this season and the hots have certainly had no issues finding the back of the net, with fourteen goals scored in their eight matches. De Graafschap, on the other hand, have only scored six times in the Eredivisie this season and Nijland and Serrarens have both scored two of those goals each.

De Graafschap were thrashed 5-0 at home by Heerenveen last time out and had a man sent-off, but they were already four goals down by that point and can only blame a dire first half performance for their heavy defeat.

Lammers scored twice in the space of three minutes to put Heerenveen 2-0 up inside the first half an hour, and Vlap then helped himself to two goals in the space of four minutes to make the half time score 4-0 to the visitors.

Things went from bad to worse for De Graafschap when midfielder Bakker was shown a straight red card early in the second half, but luckily for them Heerenveen took their foot off the gas during the second forty-five and only added one more goal to their tally two minutes from time through substitute Hornkamp.

The last thing any side wants when preparing for a big game against one of your relegation rivals is a heavy defeat, but De Graafschap will be hoping that the international break has arrived at the perfect time and given them ample time to work on a new game plan for Sunday.

We’re confident that Fortuna Sittard will win and have backed over 2.5 goals to be scored, with the final scoreline reading 3-1 to the hosts. Fortuna Sittard have lost just one of their last six matches in all competitions, while De Graafschap have lost three of their last five in league and cup. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of Fortuna Sittard’s last six matches, as well as in each of De Graafschap’s last five in league and cup.
