Genk vs Rapid Vienna Predictions
This Europa League group is wide open after four group games so far. First and last position are separated by just a single point, with Genk sitting top on six points and Sassuolo bottom on five. This means it is all to play for in the final two games, although the qualifying teams could potentially be wrapped up come the end of Thursday.
If Genk beat Rapid Vienne on Thursday they would all but guarantee themselves a position in the knockout rounds, depending on the result of Athletic Bilbao’s tie with Sassuolo.
The Belgians are coming into this in a bit of dodgy form though. Their 2-0 win over AS Eupen on Saturday made it two wins, one draw, and two defeats in their last five outings in all competitions. This includes a thrilling 5-3 defeat at Athletic Bilbao at the start of the month.
Leon Bailey grabbed the first of Genk’s three goals in this match to take his Europa League tally to a very impressive seven goals. He has notched two in the league as well and looks a very promising prospect at just 19 years of age. Backing him to score anytime at 2/1 looks the best choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions.
Whilst Genk may be inconsistent at the moment, Rapid Vienna are quite simply in a poor run of form. Their 2-1 loss at Salzburg at the weekend made it five defeats, four draws, and just two wins in their last 11 outings in all competitions. They have conceded in all but one of these games, although to be fair they have found the net themselves in eight of them.
This will come as bad news to Genk fans, as they have seen their side concede in 11 of their last 15 matches. On the other hand they haven’t failed to find the net since the middle of September, so we could be in for a high scoring match on Thursday.
Both Genk and Rapid Vienna have seen both teams score in three of their four Europa League group games this season, and there have been a combined total of 31 goals in their eight games. This makes odds of 4/6 for Both Teams to Score look a good backing, and I’m going for a 2-1 win for Genk at 8/1 for my correct score predictions as well.
