Ghana vs Uganda Predictions
Ghana’s build up for this African Cup of Nations campaign hasn’t gone particularly well. They haven’t played any warm up friendlies this month and their last outing was in November in their World Cup qualifying group.
This ended 2-0 to Egypt, who are joint favourites alongside Ghana to top this African Cup of Nations group. The defeat to Egypt made it five games without a win for Ghana, two of which ended in defeat. One of their three draws during this period was at home to Uganda too, so the signs aren’t all promising for the favourites here.
Ghana do have the advantage in terms of absolute quality within their squad though. They have the likes of Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew leading the line, whilst Christian Atsu, Daniel Amartey, and Baba Rahman provide yet more big name potential. They just don’t seem to be gelling at the moment though, as is evident by the fact they have scored just two goals in their last five games.
Uganda’s second and final warm up friendly was them losing 3-0 to Ivory Coast on Wednesday, but this came after a very impressive 3-1 win away to Slovakia last Sunday. They have now won two and lost three of their last five outings.
This saw them finish 2nd in their qualifying group for this competition, with their 13 points putting them below Burkina Faso on head to head results. Ghana only managed 14 points in their matches though, although that was enough to put them top of the table.
I think this is going to be a tough one for Ghana despite all their quality advantages. They have only won one of their last seven in all competitions and just three in their last 11. Uganda have avoided defeat in six of their last ten as well, so odds of 21/20 for a Uganda Win or Draw Double Chance look good value, especially since they have only lost two of their six previous meetings with Ghana. I’m backing a 1-1 correct score predictions at 11/2 as well.
As far as who will get those goals is concerned, Uganda have a great prospect in 21 year old midfielder Farouk Miya. He has scored 15 goals in 38 appearances for Uganda so far, so backing him to score anytime at 10/3 looks a good choice for our goalscorer predictions.
