Gil Vicente won their first two league matches back at the start of August but their 2-1 victory away to Maritimo on Sunday ended a seven-game winless run in the Primeira Liga and they climbed up to 8th in the table.

Arouca also ended a spell of six league games without a win by defeating Tondela 2-0 last time out and jumped from the bottom three and to 11th in the standings.

Deep-lying issues

Arouca’s problem, however, is that both their wins in the top-flight have come while playing at home.

They have played five times on the road this term, drawing two and losing three of their games.

A 0-0 draw at Ferreira in their most recent away day means they have scored just 0.6 goals per match away from home this season.

Gil Vicente, meanwhile, have lost three of their last four matches at home and haven’t won on their own patch since the opening weekend of the season.

Only three teams have picked up fewer points than Vitor Oliveira’s men who have accumulated just four from a possible 15 as hosts.

Arouca’s away day woes to continue

During Arouca’s last season in Portugal’s top tier, they lost 11 of their 17 away fixtures. They have conceded close to two goals per game on average on their travels and although they might get on the scoresheet one goal won’t be enough with their troubled defence.
