Tip Reasoning

Real Madrid face an away day in Catalonia for the second time in five days this Thursday as they travel to Girona to conclude their Copa del Rey Quarter-Final tie. The competition now represents Real’s best chance of silverware this term with a league title shot still looking a seriously outside bet.

They are 4-2 up in this tie from the 1st Leg but those two Girona away goals do ensure Real still have work to do here. That game was actually level at 2-2 heading into the final fifteen minutes but goals from Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos saw Los Blancos take control. Both were on target again at Espanyol at the weekend in La Liga with Benzema putting in a brilliant individual performance to seal another 4-2 win.

Girona meanwhile have had the toughest of months with this their fifth game against one of Spain’s big three. They saw off Atletico Madrid on away goals in the last round but were on the wrong end of a 2-0 home defeat against Barcelona at the weekend. It was a decent performance from Eusebio’s men who created several chances but saw their hopes significantly reduced when centre-back Bernardo Espinosa was dismissed early in the Second Half.

Real Madrid are the clear favourites to win on the night and they look well capable of doing that. Girona boss Eusebio made it clear his priority was La Liga, speaking after his side’s defeat to Barcelona in which he strongly hinted at widespread changes here. There’s some sense in that too with a comeback unlikely, the games mounting up and Girona now just 3 points above the relegation zone having lost their last 3 in all competitions.

Real Madrid meanwhile are finally starting to gather some momentum and Santi Solari will be keen not to damage that here. They were genuinely very good in spells at the weekend against Espanyol and while some rotation is to be expected, he has some serious depth to choose from thanks to several key men returning from injury in recent weeks. The likes of Isco, Bale, Ceballos and Marcelo were only on the bench in that game so any rotation won’t necessarily weaken them.

Overall backing Real Madrid to Win looks the way to go here as Los Blancos target a 4th straight win in all competitions.

If you fancy a goalscorer bet, consider going for Gareth Bale to score anytime. The Welshman ought to get a start here and looked pretty sharp as he returned to fitness with a goal off the bench on Sunday. It might not have been his best season but the Welshman still has 8 goals in all competitions since the start of November, despite picking up two injuries over that period.
