Go Ahead Eagles vs Cambuur Leeuwarden Predictions

Istvan Bakx was the hero for Go Ahead Eagles last weekend as the 32 year-old’s strike just before half time proved enough to see off promotion rivals Almere City 0-1 at Yanmar Stadion. The result took Eagles into the outright lead at the top of the Eerste Divisie table, and John Stegeman’s side go into match day 11 with a two point advantage over 2nd placed Sparta Rotterdam. Can Go Ahead take care of Cambuur at De Adelaarshorst this weekend to stay in charge?

Last week’s win against Almere was arguably Go Ahead’s biggest triumph of the campaign to date, and it’s fair to say that John Stegeman’s men are starting to look like the real deal ten games into the season.

Their only defeat so far was a surprise 3-2 reversal at Jong AZ on match day five, and they’ve negotiated a tricky run of fixtures unscathed since that disappointment.

The 0-1 victory over City backed up an easy 3-0 success against Roda JC here at De Adelaarshorst on match day eight, whilst they’ve also beaten defending champions Jong Ajax 2-1 and drawn with NEC and Sparta over the past few weeks.

Go Ahead are of course going to be in a close race for the sole automatic promotion spot with the likes of Sparta, NEC, Almere City and Twente but their credentials are getting stronger game by game. And crucially, they’ve built up a real head of steam at De Adelaarshorst, which is fast becoming a venue to be feared by other clubs.

Eagles have won four and drawn one of their five outings at home this season, scoring a massive 15 goals and conceding just three in the process. Three of their home wins have been to nil and they’ve netted at least twice in each home appearance thus far.

That doesn’t bode well for Friday’s opponents Cambuur who’ve struggled for form on the road this term.

Rene Hake’s side have claimed just five points from a possible 15 on their travels, and they’ve lost their last two away days by an aggregate of 6-1, first losing 3-1 to bottom club Dordrecht on match day eight before a 3-0 defeat at Sparta a fortnight ago.

Cambuur did at least get back to winning ways last weekend as a Kevin van Kippersluis double spearheaded a 3-1 home triumph against Helmond Sport, but it’s surely asking too much of the Leeuwarden outfit to get anything in Deventer this weekend.

Go Ahead have been extremely profitable from a betting perspective this term and we fancy them to bank an eighth win of the campaign this Friday. And we expect them to do so without conceding, based on their own defensive soundness and Cambuur’s ineptness in front of goal away from home, with just one scored in their last three outside of Cambuurstadion. This is one of the standout fixtures on match day 11, and we’re predicting the leaders to shine again in a 2-0 win at De Adelaarshorst.
