Granada vs Malaga Predictions
Granada are perennial relegation battlers and they normally win that battle and right now you wouldn’t bet against them doing that again. They are 1 place above the relegation zone but have only lost 1 of their last 6 matches and picked up a hard-fought draw away to Athletic Bilbao last weekend. They have drawn all of their last 3 matches but could really do with a win here with trips to Atletico Madrid and Sevilla still to come as well as a home game with Barcelona on the final day.
While there is over 100km between Granada and Malaga, this is a local derby by Spanish standards and a big game for both clubs so Malaga will be right up for it despite having precious little to play for. They are in 8th place but 8 points behind the side above them so it’s hard to see how they can finish any higher than 8th unless one of the teams above them completely self-destructs. It’s just 1 defeat in 7 games for Malaga and they are unbeaten in 4 matches so this game sees two sides that are in the habit of grinding out solid results meet.
It’s really hard to pick a winner here. Malaga are the better side but they have lost on all 4 top flight visits to Granada since their Eastern Andalucian rivals were promoted to the top flight and could only draw when the hosted Granada earlier in the season. Since December though they have been really solid on the road, losing just 2 of their 10 away league matches, winning 4 and drawing 4. Even their defeats were narrow 1 goals losses at Sevilla and Villarreal, who are both really strong at home so Malaga are well capable of getting a result and backing a 1-1 draw at 9/2 might be the way to go.
