Grimsby Town vs Newport County Predictions

Hosts should prove too strong

Grimsby should be backed to beat Newport at home in League Two on Saturday.

They finished ninth in League Two last season, with 68 points from 20 wins, eight draws and 18 defeats. Newport, who finished 22nd with just 49 points, won 13 games, drew ten and lost 23 times.

Grimsby recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Harrogate Town in their last League Two game having been priced as 11/8 favourites to win.

They have lost just one of the last six League Two head-to-heads at home to Newport, and will view this as a good chance to get back to winning ways after beating Crawley in their season opener.

The Mariners scored an average of 2.17 goals a game in their six home games against teams that finished in the bottom six last season, and they were the most profitable team in League Two, showing a profit of 15.59 units.

Newport’s attack is struggling to make an impact. They have failed to score in four of their last six League Two away games.

Grimsby should be backed to win 1-0 at home, with under 2.5 goals having been a winning bet in nine of the last 11 League Two games between these sides. Grimsby have beaten Newport 1-0 in two of the last three clashes.
