Groningen vs Heracles Predictions
Groningen held AZ Alkmaar to a draw away from home last time out and have only played three league games so far this season after having no fixture to play last weekend. Heracles are yet to win this season and don’t have a good record at this ground, which doesn’t bode well for the visitors.
All of the stats suggest that we won’t see both teams score in Saturday’s match and lean towards a home win for Groningen, with very few goals being scored in the process.
Both teams scored in just one of Groningen’s last three home games against Heracles and Saturday’s hosts are unbeaten at home against Heracles in the pairs’ last ten meetings. Groningen claimed a win to nil the last time the two clubs locked horns back in January, running out 3-0 winners thanks to a brace from Bruns and a Memišević penalty.
The recent performances of both teams also suggest that we won’t see goals at both ends of the pitch this weekend because both teams scored in just two of Groningen’s last six matches as well as in just two of Heracles’ last five games. Groningen have won three of their last five matches, while Heracles have lost two of their last four competitive matches, which is why we’re backing a Groningen win this weekend.
Groningen have kept four clean sheets in their last five matches, against AZ, Emmen, Eindhoven, and Hannover, while Heracles have failed to score in two of their last five matches, against PSV and Heerenveen, both of which ended in defeat. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Groningen’s last five matches and in three of Heracles’ last four games, so we’re not expecting much in the way of goalmouth action in Saturday’s clash.
We’re confident that we won’t see both teams score on Saturday and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Groningen. As well as the home advantage, Groningen have a great record against Heracles at this stadium and haven’t lost here in any of the pairs’ last ten meetings. The hosts have a strong defensive record over the last month or so and we expect that to make the difference on Saturday as we’ve backed a clean sheet and a narrow victory for Groningen.
