Hertha Berlin vs Bayer Leverkusen Predictions
- Bayer Leverkusen will be without injured top scorer Patrik Schick and attacker Karim Bellarabi.
- Bayer Leverkusen have failed to win any of their last three Bundesliga games (Drawn 1, Lost 2).
- Hertha Berlin were unbeaten in their last four meetings with Leverkusen, keeping a clean sheet in each game.
- The Berliners have lost only two of their last ten Bundesliga home games.
Leverkusen still have questions to answer
Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga bid hit the buffers a few weeks back when Bayern Munich took them apart in 40 minutes and that 5-1 defeat seems to have shaken them to the core. Die Werkself’s subsequent failure to capitalise on a 2-0 lead in Cologne and then the 2-0 loss to Wolfsburg have left some to question their togetherness.
But Gerard Seoane’s side responded with a superb 4-0 Europa League win over Real Betis on Thursday to put them back in the right frame of mind to tackle a frustratingly inconsistent Hertha Berlin this Sunday.
Die Alte Dame are an experienced group working under a coach that knows the club and the league inside out, yet they cannot seem to string more than two results together this season.
Pal Dardai cleared up Bruno Labbadia’s mess and did enough to keep them up in the second half of last season, but expectations were raised to a level where mid-table mediocrity won’t cut it.
The Berliners snapped a two-game losing streak by winning at Eintracht Frankfurt in mid-October then again at home to Monchengladbach before losing their momentum with a lacklustre display in Hoffenheim.
Berliners’ freshness could be the key
On their day, they can still trouble talented teams and made third-placed Freiburg really sweat for their win at Olimpiastadion earlier this season. Hertha’s freshness could be the key to getting a positive result on Sunday as Dardai’s men have had a full week to prepare while Leverkusen are stretched a bit thin at the moment.
The loss of top scorer Patrik Schick could tip the balance in favour of the hosts here and we take the capital club to avoid defeat by accepting the relatively generous double chance odds.
Hertha have lost only two of their last ten league games at home and one of those was to an 88th-minute Wolfsburg winner. Our preference for the 2-2 scoreline in the correct result market reflects the two sides’ statuses as the teams with the third and fifth highest average number of goals in their respective games this season.
Leverkusen’s only away clean sheet this term came at lowly Arminia Bielefeld and Hertha have conceded exactly two goals in half of their home games this term.
