      Honduras vs Chile Predictions

Will dethroned South American champions Chile produce a response following a poor summer? The visitors head to Honduras for a seemingly winnable tie, but they come into this game in poor form having surrendered their Copa America crown in July. The visitors returned to action on Friday with a dour draw against Argentina, but will they improve in their second friendly of the break? Chile head here as favourites, but there are reasonable doubts to be had over a much-changed Chilean side.

Honduras have won back to backs games 4-0 after dispatching Puerto Rico on Friday. They were able to finish off their Gold Cup group with a 4-0 victory over El Salvador, but can they pull off three 4-0 wins in a row? It’s tough to see them hammering Chile like that, especially given their recent record. They had been without a win in four friendlies before that victory at the weekend, a run which saw them score only once in four games. That is a worrying record ahead of this midweek encounter.

Chile head here without a victory in five, which has seen them exit the Copa America. They failed to win any knockout games at the tournament despite making the semi-finals, which marked the end of their domination of that competition. After wins in 2015 and 2016, this summer marked the end for that Chile side which entered the decade in brilliant fashion at the 2010 World Cup. Now they’re a side in transition, have left key players out for this clash. They’ve dropped talent with over 700 caps combined, with Alexis Sanchez among those stepping away.

Chile are now limited in attack presence, with their second-highest scorer clocking in with a tally of seven goals. They lack cutting edge at international level, so it could be a while before we see Chile in full flow. They come here with goals in short supply in recent games, while we don’t see them causing too many headaches for Honduras at the back.

The hosts have seen under 2.5 goals in five of their last seven home friendlies, while their last five away games have seen them score just three goals in total. The visitors should be able to keep things tight at the back, but we see this as a low scoring clash. We’re backing under 2.5 goals here, while we’re going with a 1-1 draw between these two.
